Botox in Sarasota

Erasing Years for Decades | Botox® at Florida Lakes Spa

The year was 2002. The first BlackBerry smartphone was released. Tiger Woods claimed back-to-back Masters. Elon Musk founded SpaceX. Theaters welcomed Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to their screens.

And Botox received FDA approval to treat facial lines and wrinkles.

With FDA approval secured, Botox skyrocketed to fame as the first and only treatment that temporarily reduces (or eliminates) moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Well over two decades later, it retains its position and reputation as a leader in neuromodulator injectables.

Botox in Sarasota defines line and wrinkle reduction for both women and men. Book a consultation at Florida Lakes Spa to discuss your concerns and goals, and read on to get the big picture about this amazing medicine that’s been erasing years for decades.

Botox at Florida Lakes Spa

Our patients in Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, Bayshore Gardens, South Bradenton, and surrounding communities have discovered the skin-smoothing power of Botox.

Allergan Pharmaceutical coined the brand name “Botox” from “botulinum toxin.” The clostridium botulinum bacterium produces the toxin, and its purified form (botulinum toxin type A) forms the basis of the Botox medication.

How Botox Works

At the injection site, Botox blocks the release of certain neurotransmitters (acetylcholine) that cause muscles to contract. This temporarily relaxes the muscles that create dynamic lines and wrinkles.

The skin in the treatment area appears smoother, and the relaxed muscles can’t create or deepen lines and wrinkles. It can be used both to address existing wrinkles and as a measure of prejuvenation, especially by younger patients, to prevent the lines and wrinkles from developing in the first place.

What It Treats

Botox in Sarasota helps our patients address signs of aging, including:

  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Under eye wrinkles
  • Marionette lines
  • Laugh lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Lip lines

We also see patients for Botox injections to help with other concerns, including:

  • Chronic migraines
  • TMJ
  • Hyperhidrosis
  • Strabismus (crossed eyes)
  • Small upper lip (with a Botox “Lip Flip”)

The Botox Process

When you come to Florida Lakes Spa for Botox in Sarasota, you won’t get the pop-up strip-mall-location experience that feels like a McMedSpa.

At our location, your health and well-being come first. We’ll make sure that your Botox treatment works as the best choice for your goals and your health. On-site medical professionals supervise our injections, so that you achieve optimal results safely.

The Personal Consultation

Your self-care journey begins with a personalized consultation. You’ll chat with one of our experienced specialists about the concerns you’d like to address and the results you’re aiming for. This honest and open conversation involves zero judgment. Instead, you’ll be heard and understood.

We’ll ask about your medical and cosmetic history to ensure your needs are met with care and attention. Our holistic approach focuses on you as a whole person, rather than as a set of symptoms to be serviced.

If Botox proves to be the best solution, we’ll either schedule your next appointment or—if time allows—we can proceed with treatment right after the consultation!

Your Botox Injections

As you relax in our comfy treatment chair, your provider will apply a numbing cream to your treatment area. This minimizes possible discomfort during the injection process.

When the numbing cream has taken effect, your provider uses a washable marker to pinpoint the proper injection sites, accurately mapping placement to address the lines and wrinkles you would like to erase. At that, we’ll use a very fine needle to precisely place the Botox in the correct dosage. The injections take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

Your Results

We meticulously focus on placing the right amount of Botox into the right location. This helps to ensure your results will look natural and healthy, without that “I’ve had work done” appearance.

Following your appointment, you can go back to your normal daily routine. You may experience slight swelling around the injection sites following your session, but this should dissipate within a few hours.

You should start seeing positive results in 1 to 3 days after having Botox in Sarasota. Optimal results usually arrive about 2 weeks after treatment.

Preparation and Aftercare

Our team of providers will fill you in on all the details for treatment preparation and the self-care you should do afterwards. We’re here to help you achieve the best from every treatment we offer.

Before Having Botox

  • If you can, avoid aspirin or blood thinners for 3 to 7 days before your appointment. These medications can increase the likelihood of post-injection bruising.
  • Skip alcohol consumption for 12 to 24 hours before your injection appointment. Alcohol thins the blood, which can increase the chances of bleeding and bruising.
  • Arrive for your appointment with a clean face—no makeup, moisturizers, or lotions.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water each of the 5 to 7 days leading up to your injections.

Aftercare for Botox

  • Stay upright and refrain from lying down for the first 4 hours.
  • Avoid intense physical activity for 48 hours.
  • Stay out of direct sunlight for 5 to 7 days after your Botox injections.
  • Avoid any facial treatments or physical manipulation in your treatment area for 2 weeks.

A Brief History of Botox

In a similar way that Kleenex® became the household name for tissues, or Coke® became a generic term for almost any dark soda, Botox in Sarasota grew to be the go-to name for neurotoxins.

An Eye on the Prize

Botulinum toxin has the ability to temporarily paralyze muscle activity. When ingested via contaminated food—a more common issue during the 1800s—it could cause paralysis throughout the body, including in the muscles that control breathing.

Scientists came to understand more specifically how the toxin worked, realizing in the process that botulinum toxin could have therapeutic value for patients with facial nerve disorders and who suffer from uncontrolled muscle spasms.

Research began in the 1960s to see if botulinum toxin could effectively treat strabismus (crossed eyes). Two decades later, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Eye Institute (NEI) approved this neurotoxin for the treatment of strabismus and blepharospasm.

A Beautiful Discovery

Researchers testing neurotoxins to relax eye muscles noticed that the treatment had an additional effect: wrinkles around the eye seemed to almost disappear. This sparked further research in the 1970s to see if the muscle relaxing effects of safely injected Botox could help reduce the signs of aging.

Spoiler alert: it did.

Botox Rocks the World

n April 15, 2002, the FDA approved Botox for treatment of moderate to severe frown lines. Botox truly broke ground as the first neurotoxin approved for cosmetic use, temporarily improving the appearance of:

  • Moderate to severe forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet

Complementary Treatments

Botox in Sarasota can deliver amazing results for anti-aging. When combined with some of the other treatments at Florida Lakes Spa, you’ll discover an aesthetic experience that makes you feel confident about the skin you’re in.

Fillers for Volume Enhancement

Botox helps to smooth out dynamic lines and wrinkles. However, it doesn’t provide volume enhancement.

To help rejuvenate sunken areas and reduce sagging skin caused by volume loss, our dermal fillers provide excellent rejuvenation with lasting results. As the name suggests, we inject the gel-like content of our fillers under the skin. In this dermal layer, the fillers lift the area to reduce wrinkles and add volume.

Your body will eventually metabolize the filler. However, the hyaluronic acid (HA) in the filler performs the same function as your body’s naturally produced HA, increasing hydration in the skin and promoting the production of collagen and elastin. The filler itself lasts up to a year, and the improved collagen and elastin content improves skin elasticity and tightness.

When you add fillers to your treatment plan along with Botox in Sarasota, you get long-lasting volume enhancement while also effectively stopping your muscles from creating new wrinkles!

Facial Support Improvement

Below your dermal layers lie the supporting mechanics of your face: your muscles. Improving collagen production helps tighten skin and smooth the signs of aging. Now give your face a “lift” by also improving muscle tone with Emface.

This noninvasive, nonsurgical treatment delivers two types of energy into your chosen treatment zones to improve sagging facial structure while addressing skin laxity and wrinkles. Your Florida Lakes provider attaches single-use treatment pads to your forehead and cheeks.

When all is ready, you’ll spend 20 relaxing minutes lying on your back as Emface applies high-intensity facial electro stimulation (HIFES) energy to tone and strengthen facial muscles. At the same time, Emface delivers gentle radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat your dermal layers. Your body responds to the thermal energy by building more collagen in the area.

This dual-modality treatment provides a scalpel-free “facelift” that works wonders when combined with your Botox in Sarasota.

Medical Weight Loss

One might think that extra weight means more volume, and hence fewer wrinkles. The fact of the matter is, the lifestyle that contributes to obesity can cause wrinkles. Take these diet facts into consideration:

  • Sugar can lower collagen levels.
  • Processed carbohydrates can damage collagen in the skin (glycation).
  • Salt can dehydrate skin.
  • Saturated fats can trigger acne-causing hormone release.
  • Trans fats can reduce blood supply to the skin.
  • Lack of proper nutrients and antioxidants can reduce skin health and elasticity.
  • Eating a lot of sugars and starches puts free radicals into overdrive (oxidative stress), contributing to collagen and elastin losses.

Our medical weight loss injections help you lose excess weight while learning a newer, healthier lifestyle. You can feel more energetic and confident as the pounds drop, which in turn gives you motivation to improve your habits.

When you combine Botox in Sarasota along with medical weight loss, you’ll feel (and look) better from the inside out.
